Our Valley
Village
Not much has changed here since the Jennings family opened their first brewery on the banks of the Whitbeck in the 1820’s. Lakeland cottages, stunning views, a friendly village shop. Still a proper village with a strong and active community. Table tennis on a Wednesday evening in the village hall. Coffee social on a Saturday.
Fells
“I expressed the opinion that the North Western Fells were the most delectable of all. Times without number I came off the hills faced with a long trudge … but never, rain or shine did I do so wearily, but only regretting that another day was done.”
A Wainwright
Water
For wild swimmers, nowhere is better than Crummock Water, just a few minutes up the valley by car. Pictures can be deceptive, but in this case nothing can do justice to this magical lake whether it’s to brace a cold swim, a gentle walk, early morning canoe or just relax by the shore.
Town
Cockermouth and Keswick are both Towns within a few minutes of the Cottage. If your National Trust membership is up to date, enjoy a late brunch followed by a tour of Wordsworth House. Or pop in for some retail therapy in one of the many independent shops in the town. Free parking too.
